Designer Tip - Using Paper Shapes in MyMemories Suite

NOTE - I originally published this tutorial on August 15, 2019 on the MyMemories Blog.

Hey MyMemories Friends!
This is Mags from MagsGraphics - here to share some scrappy fun with you!

Using assorted papers strips and shapes will add interest and depth to your layouts.  In an earlier blog post from Albums 2 Remember, you learned how to add paper to shapes within MyMemories Suite.  She gave steps on adding papers from kits that were installed INTO the MMS program.  However, I don’t install any of the kits I purchase from MyMemories into the software; I prefer to use the “General” download button, and save all of my kits by theme on my External Hard Drive.  Then I can easily use the graphics in other programs as well.  So I’m going to show you how to add papers from kits that are NOT installed in the software (but you are still using the MyMemories Suite program), and I have some amazing layouts to share with you that effectively use paper shapes and strips.

Adding Paper From “Outside Content” to a Shape in MMS…

  1.  Open MyMemories Suite.  Start a new project or canvas.  For this sample layout, I’m using items from my BOOK NERD Collection.
  2. Add your first shape.  Be sure to size it the way you want it.  If you size if AFTER you add a paper, it will skew the paper details.  You can add a shape from either the Left Side Menu (drag-n-drop) or the Right Side Menu (click & choose).

  1. Instead of clicking “Paper” on the Right Side Menu, click “PHOTO.”  Photos and Papers are both in JPG format so you can will be able to “trick” the software into adding a paper from outside of the software.

  1. Navigate to the folder where you keep the kit papers that you want to work with.  Double-click and it will add your paper. If you need to make adjustments to how the paper shows up in the shape, just double-click on that shape and move it around.
  2. Here are many shapes stacked; can you see how this is “shaping” up to be a cool layout? 😉

  1. Now you can add your background paper, and a box (or boxes) for photos:

Now you can start stacking your different paper shapes under your photos to make some colorful and dynamic layouts.  Take a look at these examples.  (Images are linked to the collections used.)

I have a special treat for you!  I’ve provided the layout I just showed you how to make as a 12”x12” QUICK PAGE!  It is available for download thought my Gallery Showcase Group on Facebook.  This Quick Page uses BOOK NERD, a MyMemories Exclusive for August.  I hope you’ll snag up the rest of the collection!

Now it’s YOUR turn!  Try layering paper shapes in your layouts!  I’d love to see your layouts - Show them off in any of these Facebook Groups:

VIDEO Designer Tip - Using Layout Frames in MyMemories Suite

*Note - I wrote this post for the MyMemories Blog; it was published on March 16th.  I'm re-posting it here for you as well!

Hey Scrappy Friends,

I've created a video tutorial (my first one!) on how to use my new 12"x12" LAYOUT FRAMES within MyMemories Suite Software.  I look forward to your feedback!

A few weeks ago, I went on my Spring Scrap Retreat with 4 of my local friends.
In 4 days, I scrapped 70 layouts (and watched 11 movies! 😁).
I’m always looking for ways to scrap lots of photos quickly so I can power through my own
scrapbooks; one of the ways is to use these 12”x12” Layout Frames:

For Photoshop users, they can easily crop a photo to fit any size or shape,
but in MyMemories Suite Software, it is a little trickier.  So I’ve made a video for you to show you
how to use one of these frames!

I also helps that I specifically use the MyMemories Photo Box Shapes as a reference for the hearts
and stars used in my Layout Frames.  I wanted these to work easily for MMS users.

Before watching the video, you’ll want to open MyMemories Suite and start a new 12”x12” project
or photobook.  You should also know what photos you want to use and what kit(s). For purposes of
this tutorial, I am using one photo and several patterned papers - but the steps just repeat for multiple
photos.

Be kind! While I am very experienced with MMS, this is my first tutorial video! 😊
All you need to do is click PLAY on the image below to watch right from this blog!

Now it’s YOUR turn!  These layout frames, as well as ALL of my products are 35% OFF until
March 22nd - it’s the perfect time to snag the new Frames and crank out some beautiful layouts!

Here are just some of the layouts created with my new frames!

I can’t wait to see what YOU make.
Be sure to stop by the MagsGraphics Gallery Showcase Group on Facebook to show off your work!
